The Brazil-born Croatia international suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in the history of the Premiership as a result of an over-enthusiastic tackle by Taylor in the third minute of Arsenal’s Saturday Premier League clash with Birmingham at St Andrews a few weekend's back, and is all too aware that he has a very long and hard road to recovery ahead of him.
"I am walking on crutches but I am feeling well, there is no pain," he told a Croatian paper. "Some say the recovery will take half a year, some say I'll be playing in nine months, others say 15 months."
A compound fibula fracture combined with a dislocated ankle could have cost him his left foot had the medics on site not responded so admirably, and although there is hope that he might be back in time for the early part of next season, there is also a real enough possibility that he will never be able to play professional football again.
